The Big Question

The question we've no doubt heard the most in recent weeks is "Are you ready?" Sounds like a loaded question.

Diapers? check. Lots of cloth diapers and all the accessories so they don't stink up the house.

Nursery? Ready.

Car? Mostly ready... car seat and baby bag are packed.

Food? We prepared and froze some meals for quick fixing once we are back home.

Oh - you are asking if we are ready - ready to be parents. I see. Can I say "I think so"? We've read lots of books, taken lots of classes, and in general I think we know what to expect. We know we'll lose some sleep. We know our regularly scheduled lives might spin into disarray within a day of bringing the baby home. So we are somewhat ready for those things.

I saw a cartoon that made me laugh the other day. The father and mother of a baby are getting ready to leave the hospital, and the father says to the doctor "So what time should we wake the baby up in the morning?" Hah! At least we're not that naive.

What we are definitely ready for however is to be surprised and overjoyed as we welcome this little girl into the world and into our family. Yes, that is something we're definitely ready for. And a few weeks off work never hurt either :)
