Some Firsts!

Not exactly milestones, but firsts nonetheless!

On Saturday Aimee, Eva and I went to the movies with our friends Jessica and Travis to see the new Indiana Jones movie.  It was Eva's first time in a movie theater!  The 3 PM show was almost sold out, so we killed some time and caught the 3:40 show.  Eva gets transfixed by the TV at home (a habit we'll need to break!) so I figured she'd love the big screen, and she did.  It was a while before the movie started, but she watched the commercial loop before the previews, and I think she started thinking that all these people gathered around to watch the same commercials over and over again, which she soon got bored of.  She fell asleep during the previews, and woke up for the last 20 minutes of the movie, which she seemed to enjoy.  Best of all, almost no fussing, we didn't even need to take her out of the theater to calm her down.

Monday was Memorial Day, we went to a picnic for our friend Scott's church.  Eva stared in awe at the playground as she saw all the kids running around and having fun.  So even though she couldn't run around herself yet, Daddy ran around and jiggled her legs like she was running and it was great.  It was also her first time on a swing, with Mommy, and her first time down a sliding board, with Daddy.  Eva may be scarred for life from the sliding board, as it was plastic and gave Eva a nasty static shock through her whole body!  As I got off the slide with Eva in my lap, I handed her to Aimee, and Aimee went to wipe some slobber off her face and got a big zap, which I felt through poor  little Eva's legs!  It took about 10 minutes to calm her down after that!  But overall she had a great time at the picnic.

3 Years

Justin and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on May 14th. They have been 3 wonderful years :).

New Developements

Eva has found her feet! She has started to play with her feet this week. I will try to hand her a toy she usually grabs, but as she is reaching for it she will accidentally grab her foot! She also grabs her foot on purpose too! Its wonderful! She has also started to make a new face this week. I haven't gotten a picture of it just yet - but she brings her lips in as if she is hiding them and gives a little smirk. So precious! She gets lots of kisses when she makes that face!

Sleeping Beauty

Eva has slept well this week and consequently so have I!

Tuesday Night - 9 Hours
Wednesday Night - 9 Hours
Thursday Night - 10 hours

I will miss the night time cuddly feeding we use to share but I am excited about the next phase of Eva's developement and the extra sleep won't kill me...

Vaccinations

Today is Eva's 4 month birthday, and what present does she get from the doctor?  Oh no, not one present but 5!  5 shots.

We were unsure of what to do about vaccines so we did not give Eva shots until today.  This was her first round and she did so well, I am really proud of her!  The nurse gave her 5 shots and applied 5 bandages within 2 minutes tops.  She screamed for a few minutes, ate, had some tylenol and was smiling and talking within 10 minutes.

My First Mother's Day

Well, it has been a wonderful weekend! My Mom, Dad and Mother-in-law went out of their way to make my first Mother’s Day special! My mom even thought of little Eva Mae as a future Mama and got her presents too! So sweet! Justin, since Eva is too little to be planning such events, went above and beyond, as usual, to make me feel special and let me know that I am appreciated. I wanted to go out to dinner the day before Mother's day to avoid the crowds, so we went to dinner Saturday.

Dinner: He took me out to Yum Yum Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar for dinner. I love sushi! I had an avocado roll, an eel roll and an avocado, cream cheese salmon roll with fried rice on the side. Yum Yum! It was a wonderful atmosphere and Eva behaved so well. She slept through most of dinner. Aside from a drunk stranger trying to hold Eva - it was a wonderful evening!

Dessert: Justin took me to our favorite Gelato place. Everyone in the area should try it! It’s at the SW corner of Northlake and US-1. I had a mix of cappuccino and bittersweet chocolate. We have not had it in a long time, so it was very tasty.

Mother's day: Justin went out of his way constantly to do everything for me - get Eva in and out of the car, put the stroller in and out of the car, bring everything in from the car when we went to the grocery store, washed my feet, rubbed my feet, opened the door for me, took care of lunch and dinner and clean up, and let me pick out a movie to watch. It was a wonderful day of rest for me and I was reminded of how cherished I am. What more could I possibly ask for?!

Justin you are a wonderful husband. I love you!

Sleeping :)
Hair sticking up
Eva and her polar bear from the pack and play

She sucks her thumb with her hand open, so cute!

In the Crib

Last night Eva spent her first night in her crib.  She followed the same sleeping pattern that she typically does:  3 hours, eat, 3 hours, eat, 2 hours, eat. She seemed much more comfortable.  Justin and I slept in the room on our futon to make us feel better.  Tonight we are going to try to sleep in our room and have her stay in her crib :(.  This is not going to be easy for me.

Grabbing

As previously mentioned Eva has shown signs of wanting to crawl.  Yesterday I laid a blanket on the floor, put Eva on her tummy, placed a blue ring just slightly out of her reach (motivation) and said, "Eva grab the blue ring."  So she proceeded to pull the blanket, bring the ring within reach and then grabbed it.  It took all of three seconds.   Well I didn't specify how to grab the ring - she is so smart.

Snail or Turtle?

I have been trying to give Eva tummy time to help her learn to crawl.  Well, Eva can roll over from her tummy to her back.  So sometimes it is a fruitless effort and she just ends up playing on her back.  Today I put her on her tummy and she moved like a snail, slowly advancing across the floor.  She is making progress!   She could beat a snail, but probably not a turtle.

Kisses

Two nights ago, on Monday, I picked Eva up and pulled her in for a kiss, then another, then another.  I put her in my right arm to go up the stairs and I couldn't believe it - she had her mouth wide open and leaned into my cheek three times in a row!  I have officially received my first three kisses!  It was wonderful :)

The Beach

Eva went to the beach for the first time on Saturday April 26th.  The water was cold, but she enjoyed it.

Movin' Right Along

Eva was laying on my tummy tonight and quickly starting to move north.  She "crawled" about 4 to 5 inches up.  She really wants to be on the move.  I'm so proud!

Precious Moments

Tonight I laid Eva on her changing stand for one more change before bedtime.  After that I started to pray over her before I put her in her bassinet.  As I was praying I felt her hands touch my face.  I opened my eyes and she was looking at my eyes, holding my face with a big, toothless grin.  It brought tears to my eyes.  Please take a moment and pray for me - pray that I will be a good Mama.  Thank you.
